CHINESE courts have sentenced 19 government officials and one business leader to prison for up to 20 years for their roles in a landslide which killed more than 70 people.
The disaster occurred in Shenzhen Derek Carr Limited Jersey , a southern boom city bordering Hong Kong, at the end of 2015 when soil illegally piled 160 metres high at an old quarry site turned to mud during heavy rains.
Three local courts passed sentences at the end of April for 45 people who had been charged in connection with the landslide.
Long Renfu, the boss of Shenzhen Yixianglong, which was responsible for managing the site, was sentenced to 20 years in prison and a fine of 10 million yuan (US$1.5 million) for negligence and corruption.
The former head of Shenzhen’s city administration bureau was also sentenced to 20 years and fined 8 million yuan, while an official from Guangming District was sentenced to 16 years for taking bribes.
Seventeen other officials were given sentences between three and seven years.
In August 2015, just months before the Shenzhen disaster, illegally stocked chemical products caused huge explosions in the northern port of Tianjin, killing at least 165 people.

In medical terms, excessive sweating of the face is referred to as hyperhydrosis and continues to affect a sizeable part of population all over the world, not being confined to any specific geographical area. Hyperhydrosis is categorized into two: primary and secondary, also known as generalized sweating. Primary hyperhydrosis is experienced more often and is not the result of a particular physical activity, and remains localized. In most cases it is caused due inheritance and appears during teen years. However, in certain cases it is known to appear during early childhood or even during infancy. Such a condition is attributed to an overactive nervous system.
The other form, known as secondary or generalized hyperhidrosis refers to an increased production of sweat all over the body i.e. it is not localized like the primary kind described already. The causes for this kind of sweating are many and vary from person to person. So far, its exact cause has not been be ascertained but now it is known that genetic disorder is the principal cause of excessive perspiration. However, it has other known causes too, and these include menopause, hyperthyroidism, infection, obesity and even psychiatric disorders.
What are the available treatments?
